What to pack for Barcelona in September

September is a lovely time in Barcelona. The August crowds have gone, the sea is at its warmest, and afternoons are still hot enough for the beach. It is also the month for the occasional heavy thunderstorm, and the city's biggest street festival, La Mercè, fills the last week with parades and fireworks.

So the list is built for a beach vacation and a city trip at once. Linen and light cotton for the day, swimwear for the beach, and something smart for dinner, which starts late: 9pm is early. The Sagrada Família and the cathedral ask for covered shoulders, so bring a scarf.
