What to pack for Bali in July

July is the peak of the dry season in Bali. Days on the coast are warm and sunny, with low humidity by tropical standards and very little rain. Up in Ubud and the hills it is a few degrees cooler, and before dawn on a volcano hike it can feel properly cold.

So the list is built from light, loose pieces, swimwear and one warm layer. Temples require a sarong and a sash, usually available to borrow at the entrance, but carrying your own is easier. Beach towns are relaxed, while the smarter restaurants and beach clubs in the south reward one nice outfit.

Gear worth the space

  • A lightweight sarong

Temple cover, beach towel, shade on a scooter and a scarf on a cool evening, all in something that folds to nothing.

  • Loose linen pants

Cool in the heat, respectful in villages and temples, and they protect your legs from mosquitoes at dusk.

  • Trail runners

The volcano path is loose, dark and steep, and the waterfall trails are slippery. Sandals are not enough.

  • A filter water bottle

Tap water is not safe to drink. A filter bottle saves a lot of plastic, and refill stations are common.

A sarong for the temple, one nice outfit for the south, a warm layer for the volcano. Packlier packs all three.
